World Cup Finals on Sunday
updated: Jul 12, 2014, 12:00 PM

By K. Prieto

The finals are upon us and the match is set. Germany will be playing Argentina on Sunday and there is no doubt it will be an unforgettable game. My heart was broken to see the Dutch eliminated, but not as broken (or embarrassed) as Brazilian fans. Brazil was completely humiliated and clearly out performed by the German machine. Brazil played so poorly it looked as if there were only 9 men on the field. Some sports analysts feel Brazil's loss had something to do with Neymar and Silva being out, but Germany has looked solid throughout the entire tournament. I think the Germans would have won even if Neymar was heathy and playing. I predict the Germans will return home with the trophy after another anticipated stellar performance.

It has been a fun and exciting month full of controversy, drama, and perhaps legendary wins and defeats. With Spain, Portugal, and Italy's early exit, the doors were thrown open for any and all contenders to pull through. We have seen lesser known countries, like Costa Rica and Colombia, really make a name for themselves. It is safe to say they will be considered strong contenders for future tournaments. There have been questionable officiating, but that was to be expected. Perhaps the biggest story was Luis Suarez insane act of biting yet another opponent. The US had another decent showing, but it wasn't enough to keep their hopes alive. Many think their performance will be enough to show the world they can compete at a top level, but that will remain to be seen.

I am sad to see the World Cup come to an end. However, we don't have to wait long as the Women's World Cup in Canada starts next June. This time the US will have a far better chance of making it into the finals with players like Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, and the formidable force of Abby Wambach. Wambach, by the way, currently holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 167 goals. Yes, that's for both male and female players. In fact 6 female soccer players have more international goals than the top male player at 109.

Below are my last two predictions. I hope you all enjoyed the last month of soccer as much as I did!
