Christian Jesus Gutierrez, age 35, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for possession of cocaine for sale,
destruction of evidence, resisting a peace officer resulting in serious injury, commission of a felony while
released from custody, and child endangerment following the service of a search warrant at his home on
the 800 block of E. Figueroa Street.
Gutierrez is a known drug dealer who at the time of this arrest was out of custody, on bail, for three
pending drug cases. Santa Barbara Police Department Narcotics detectives learned that Gutierrez was
continuing to sell drugs while out on bail and subsequently obtained a search warrant for his residence.
On July 3, 2014 at 7:05 a.m., SBPD detectives executed the search warrant. When the detectives
announced their presence Gutierrez ran to the bathroom of his house and attempted to destroy two ounces
of cocaine valued at $2,200.00. The detectives intervened and prevented him from flushing the drugs
down the toilet, however while doing so one detective suffered a serious laceration to his right forearm
from broken glass causing profuse bleeding. The injury required surgical treatment at Santa Barbara
Cottage Hospital. Once Gutierrez was prevented from destroying the drugs he was taken into custody
without further incident. He admitted to possessing the cocaine for sale. With him in his residence along
with the cocaine at the time of his arrest were his two children, ages six and nine.
Gutierrez was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned charges; his bail amount was
increased to $250,000.00.
