Travaris Lavell Amps, age 28, of Fresno, was arrested for possession of over one ounce of marijuana, possession of concentrated cannabis, possession of marijuana for sale, and child endangerment. Amps was found with 83 pounds of marijuana valued at approximately $80,000.00.
On July 8, 2014 at 9:54 p.m., Santa Barbara Police Department Officers Kamin, Sipes, Lombardo, and Santillan responded to a call of a disturbance in progress at a residence on the 00 block of W. Pedregosa Street involving a subject, Amps, refusing to leave the premise. Upon arrival the officers contacted Amps seated in his truck outside of the residence. In plain sight on the floor of the truck was a Pyrex dish containing a small quantity of concentrated cannabis. The vehicle was subsequently searched and was found to contain propane tanks, a scale, and other paraphernalia used for the manufacture and sale of concentrated cannabis. Amps was in possession of over $5000.00 in cash.
The location of the incident was the home of Amps's girlfriend's parents. Amps has an 11-month old son with his girlfriend and had been living at that location intermittently. Investigation revealed that Amps had a history of causing disturbances within the household which included threats of violence. Investigation further revealed that Amps was in possession of a large quantity of marijuana stored in 10 trash bags alongside the residence; the marijuana was seized by the officers. In the course of their investigation the officers also viewed a cell phone video showing Amps allowing his then 9-month old son to suck from the end of a used marijuana water pipe as if it were a toy.
Amps was arrested on the aforementioned charges and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with a bail amount of $100,000.00. Santa Barbara County Child Welfare Services was notified.
