Piano Dealer
updated: Jul 09, 2014, 2:13 PM

Does anyone know a good piano dealer in the area? I am trying to sell my upright before I move and I think I have a better shot at getting it sold through a professional than doing it myself.

IS Micheal's still in business? He used to be on Calle Real. He can advise you, even if he may not take it on consignment.

I sold my baby grand through a dealer down south who came up and single-handedly moved the piano from the living room onto his truck. He paid full asking price too!

I don't know of anyone in town, but if you don't find a dealer, I'd try contacting as many piano teachers as you can find and let them know what you've got. They may know of kids who started lessons on a keyboard and need to move up to a real piano.

We bought our piano at Keyboard Concepts (Van Nuys, but there is one closer, Camarillo? now) and they did also have used pianos for sale. Not sure if they buy them direct or just happened to have taken them in trade.

I finally sold my upright piano to a friend but I had first advertised it on Craigslist for while. I think the advice to call dealers out of the area or local piano teachers is good advice.

Dennis Schwendtner & James Connelly are piano tuners and restorers who also consign quality pianos. They are both extremely knowledgable and honest. Google their names for contact info.

Call the music departments at local colleges. Occasionally they offer used pianos for sale at reasonable prices and certainly could tell you where they repurchase the replacements.

Also, check with piano tuners. They see many and know their quality.
