1.) The Moorish buildings near Santa Claus lane. (2) Padaro Lane area - coming up on that view from Highway 101, that seems to represent a "jewel in the crown." (3) Have been curious about a behind the scenes tour of the Santa Barbara Four Seasons Biltmore.

Mission Santa Barbara, the SB Historical Museum Lotus Land, and the Channel Islands. But in my defense, I've only lived here 27 years.

Nature Boy: Don't feel bad, I was born here, yet I was well over 21 before I ever visited the Old Mission or the Art Museum--and the only reason I did then was because we had out-of-town visitors who wanted to see them. I, too, would like to visit the Moorish buildings near Santa Claus (isn't that Moorish area called Xanadu?) I've been on four continents, but I've never been to our local Channel Islands.

Wish that I had followed up on the offer to see the giant tortoises at the Hope Ranch Bryce estate years ago. Or, later, the turtle sanctuary here.

When there used to be an Elks Club on East Haley at Laguna or Olive - always wondered could that place have been a sketchy as its appearance/reputation?

The Clark Estate, every single Channel Island, not being able to take my cats to the beach with me, treating my wife to 1 night at the San Ysidro Ranch, and, my own fault, not seeing the insides of the houses for sale that I can only drive by because of my lack of financial smarts, sigh.

No finer property exists in all of Santa Barbara/Montecito/Hope Ranch, but no one other than caretakers have seen it for the past 30 years.....

@207P: Recently took the garden tour at the Biltmore. The head gardener knows every plant by name, and is a delightful man. Every Tuesday at 11 am, lasts about an hour. Got to see the very private and pricey cottage with it's own pool and patio.

Hurricane Ridge trail,
Manzana Creek Trail out to Manzana Schoolhouse,
a bunch of the awesome back country hikes I don't have the stamina for (yet).

I wish I'd been alive while they were still a healthy community, I would have loved to visit Sunburst when they had their fishing boat, farm, and restaurant (Anyone remember the Farmer and the Fisherman?)

321, I did hitchhike to Sunburst 1 time to visit a friend who was living there. I loved the organic gardens. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday & there was a wedding & Jim Messina sang for all of us. I was tempted to live there but could not give up my beloved dog. I got a very good feeling from the open hearted spiritual people living there.

I too have always wanted to see the Point Conception Lighthouse :)

There are many fine old homes on the Upper East that I pass fairly often - sure would be interesting to see inside them. The Pearl Chase Society May tour happens to be during the month that I must work overseas. Love those old houses, especially the well maintained ones.

got me with a spit take, Nature Boy! 50 years in SB, never been to the top of the Courthouse Tower. The info/interview here about the clock tower and the clock rehab was great. (it was here, right? Urban Hikers?)

Well aware of that, 578. I said that I missed them.

There are many buttons under "Edhat Links" on the left of every page here. One is titled "Urban Hike." Thank goodness we have their archive; their fantastic work is preserved here.

Here is the article about the courthouse bells that I thought might have been from UH's. It's not. A must read! Edhat article that links to it:

Thank you Kaleena, for the high-quality article cited in the above link! It was a gift to us readers.

I too want to see the inner workings of the rehabbed Courthouse clock. But guess what! I'm going to try to become a Courthouse docent so I'll be able to not only see it but perhaps share it with visitors too.

No I didn't originally say I missed them, but I sure do. "Urban Hikers?" was not a call out to them, but a vague question as to whether it had been one of their adventures that led to that extremely informative article. Sorry I was unclear.

Living here is like living next to Disneyland...you only go visit places of interest when people come to visit. There are so many places to go see and visit, but we just don't go.

I got ya beat, Nature Boy. 41 years in Goleta. Due to cost and being perpetually too busy, I've yet to see LotusLand, the inside of the SB Mission, Bellosguardo, or anywhere near enough of the local backcountry or Channel Islands. Maybe when I retire...

I would love to visit the Channel Islands. But I hear the boat ride is not very pleasant. So that's what's stopping me.
