World Cup Quarterfinals
updated: Jul 04, 2014, 8:00 AM

By K. Prieto

Eight teams were eliminated and eight teams remain. The quarter finals are set and the stakes are getting higher. The wins are becoming more glorious and the losses more heartbreaking. I can't remember a second round as exciting as this. A few games went into overtime with two teams advancing on PK's, Brazil over Chile and Costa Rica over Greece. The better of the two PK's were obviously the Costa Rica and Greece game. A lot of the Brazilian and Chile players performed poorly executed PK's, which made it exciting to watch but not very thought out.

I went 5 for 6 on predictions, which I'm pretty proud of. I was hopeful that the US would pull off an upset. Tim Howard's performance was hands down the highlight of the entire match. He had a record setting performance and is likely to be talked about for weeks to come. The internet once again exploded with #ThingsTimHowardCouldSave. See a few of my favorites below:

Overall, the US looked tired and out of position. It appeared there was a large breakdown in communication and with the new formation I would say they prepped for a defensive approach. With Julian Green's substitution into the game, and his first touch being a goal, he provided a burst of energy and life. However, it was too little too late.

The excitement continues Friday and Saturday. The victors will move on to the semi-finals. Below are my predictions. Enjoy the games and have a happy and safe 4th of July.

France vs. Germany - Germany win

Brazil vs. Columbia - Brazil win

Argentina vs. Belgium - Argentina win

Netherlands vs. Costa Rica - Netherlands win
