Crow-Hawk-Mocking Bird
updated: Jul 03, 2014, 3:00 PM

By Dulce

With all the Crow comments recently, I decided to send some pics from our deck on the Mesa. The feeders bring in Towees, Nutmeg Mannikins, Songbirds, Jays and Hummers. Our water dish has brought in daily visits from a resident crow. He brings his food or grabs pebbles from our flower pots and drops them in the water to wash off. He then gobbles them down. However, he is so vigilant that getting his photo has been daunting even from inside the house behind the glass. This was the best I could do.

Someone mentioned the Hawks vs Mocking Birds. This feisty little guy even pecked the hawk's back, but he was ignored.

Is this a female Red Tailed Hawk?

Another day many Crows ganged up on one of our local hawks. They rammed and stunned her so hard she was holding on to a tree hanging upside down with her wings out. She did recover and sought safety in the tree huddled next to the trunk.
