Construction of the Clark Avenue Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Improvements Begins July 7, 2014

The County of Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors has awarded a contract for Clark Avenue Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Improvements to G. Sosa Construction, Inc. for $182,000. A Federal Safe Routes to School Program grant will fund the project.

The current walking path on the south side of Clark Avenue between Norris and SR135 is a narrow and uneven dirt path. The Public Works Department conducted a study and found that pedestrian traffic is steady both before and after school and students often walk in the roadway. The improvements will include the installation of a retaining wall and sidewalk to improve walkability along this route. The Public Works Department will inspect and administer the construction.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7, 2014, and be completed by mid-August. Construction hours will be 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Drivers should be aware of reduced speed zones and increased traffic control when driving through the construction site.
