Scanner Reports 7-2-14
updated: Jul 02, 2014, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Wednesday Hump Day; some people's favorite day of the week. I guess if I ever had a favorite day of the week it was FRYday but that was a long time ago. My favorite thing about FRYday a long time ago besides the beer drinking and the nonstop partying was the FRYday; all you could eat Lake Michigan Perch at Walgreens. I can't remember how much it was maybe 5 Bucks but it was 30 plus years ago probably cheaper than 5 Bucks. Those were the days! The waitresses hated me because I ate so much food back then I think, I would have 9 or 10 plates of perch piled high with French fries. When I die I hope I go to Walgreens for the all I can eat Lake Michigan Perch Dinner for Eternity. When bad things happen in my life it's memories like these that keep me going.

I had a falling out with my friend and I'm hurting but it has been a very unhealthy friendship for a long time and now there's a huge open space there. It's like driving down a bumpy road with a lot of deep potholes you're constantly trying to avoid driving into them because you'll disable your car, or yourself. Will I stepped into one. Ha,ha. No good deed ever goes unpunished, especially when someone considers you their servant. When I first came into Santa Barbara, I did a lot of drinking, living outside. I got into trouble drinking and raising Hell; went to jail a couple times.

Friends of mine told me I should seek sobriety because I was a real jerk when I drank thus my first introduction to sobriety and Alcoholics Anonymous was when I was young, 22 years of age here in Santa Barbara. It wasn't too long after I joined AA I moved into Newhouse. Both AA and Newhouse had a profound effect on my life. While I haven't stayed Normal or Sober all of my life, the experiences of living in Newhouse and going to AA is part of what changed my life which I believe was headed for a destructive end. I'm forever grateful. I may not smile all the time or look grateful but I yam. I don't go to AA anymore, it's not for me, but I think it's a great program for people desiring to quit drinking. Many people need the structure AA provides to stay sober. I have a lot of friends that I consider close that continue to go to AA. But there are some people who believe AA and other 12-Step programs are a cult and people that go to AA are criminals. I went to a church many years ago here in Santa Barbara the preacher called AA Anti-Christ Anonymous. I won't say who he is but his daughter is a well-known recording artist today.

Anyway to make a short story longer, a close relative of my former best friend hates Alcoholics Anonymous or any other 12-Step program so much they are obsessed with it. It's like their life is devoted with bringing down what they consider brain washing criminals who are members of AA. Anyone who is a friend or talks good of AA or any 12-Step program is SATAN in this person's eyes. Guess who I am? I got into an argument with this person on Facebook and ended up deleting the friendship after I did that the person called her relative and told her I was SATAN, Praise ye the Almighty DOG! I only wish this would have occurred long ago because I thought this person was my friend. This past week when she got hurt and ended up in the hospital, I cried so much I caught a cold. And I cleaned part of her house throwing out my knee and back, well at least I scored a can of Spam out of it. Isn't it strange you can invest so much into a friendship for years and years and years only to lose it all in a second by not really doing anything? If it's going to continue to be weird like this I truly hope it's over. My back is freaking killing me.

What the Hell, here's your Scanner Roni Reports, Monday:

  • Vehicle over the side 154 at 246.
  • Unconscious female at the DMV.
  • Report of a person on a bench in front of Rite Aid in the 800 Block of State Street bleeding and covered in blood. Police say that is was a medical and the person refused medical go up and walked away? That sounded weird to me so I posted it, I haven't heard of many people bleeding and covered in blood getting up and walking away.

Will that's it outta me for now. Friend and fellow friend of Edhat whose name escapes me now because I always forget names turned me on to a nice Radio Shack base scanner. It just needed an antenna, already on the way, should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to check it out. I got 7 Scanners now and two bottles of booze I ripped off from boozers, heeheehee. Anyway, the friend that gave me the Scanner works at Pet Co on South Milpas for all of your Cat Nip needs, or cans of Alpo if you should get the munchies. Have a great Wednesday and Dog willing we will see you on FRYday. Later, Roger
