June 29, 2014 - Summer In SB

This week, edhat seemed to be full of "s"-themed things, such as Summer Solstice celebrations, soccer watching, seals, screech owls, sunflowers, spiders, Sarah McLachlen, and sailboats! Among the many fantastic photo submissions this week was this sunset pic, snapped by Aquaholic from below Ellwood Mesa Cliffs.

The soccer craze is sweeping the nation and Santa Barbara is no exception. Every bar or restaurant with TVs has been crowded with people watching the games. If you're following the World Cup, don't forget about the USA game against Belgium this Tuesday at 1 pm and be sure to read edhat subscriber K. Prieto's latest coverage.

Our Cat of the Week is Miss Purdy, who is available for adoption during Adopt-a-Cat month at the SB Humane Society. Our Dog of the Week is Gorda, who, despite her name, is just an active Boxer mix in need of a loving home. Our Non-profit of the Week is The Rhythmic Arts Project, an organization that empowers people with various disabilities to succeed in the world by integrating percussion instruments as creative learning tools. K. Prieto discusses the United States' advancement in the World Cup, Rosie cooks up spicy curry in the kitchen, the Dedicated Staff enjoyed a night out in Old Town Goleta at Pepe's where they ran into their pal Jack Johnson, historical photos need identifying, David Diamant shares a video of the 2nd Saturday Funk Zone art walk, and Beachbummer took the time machine back to 1967 in Santa Barbara.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

HISTORY: A subscriber took the time machine back to 1967 in Santa Barbara.

A subscriber shares a video of the 2nd Saturday Funk Zone art walk earlier this month.

HISTORY: Where is this historical photo after the 1925 earthquake located?

The Dedicated Staff enjoyed a night out at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant and ran into world renowned musician Jack Johnson.

IN THE KITCHEN: Although not necessarily a summertime dish, curry is simple and so tasty.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: The Rhythmic Arts Project educates individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Differences by embracing a curriculum that encompasses rhythm as a modality to address basic life and learning skills.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Gorda, an active five-year old Boxer mix who is in need of a loving home.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Celebrate Adopt-A-Cat Month at the Santa Barbara Humane Society and come meet Miss Purdy!

The second round qualifiers have been set for the World Cup and the US is in!
