Airplanes Flying Low
updated: Jun 27, 2014, 12:55 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Just had 2 very large very low very loud airplanes fly over the Ellwood Beach/Cannon Green area. Gray color. Anyone know what they are or why they were flying so low? I'm in the flight pattern for landing but these were as low as planes usually are when it's foggy. Oops! Just had a small jet fly over really low as well. Is it due to the fire maybe? Color me confused with my hands over my ears.

I don't even bother asking anymore. So many, so big, so low. Especially Mon-Wed, I think I had one a day loud flyovers, almost window-shaking. I didn't try to see and identify, figured they were military training/upkeep flights.

Yes, and over Summerland too! Was barely above 1,000 feet (I've taken flying lessons and did my solo). Definitely military, but doesn't mean it's active military. Whatever, it was cool to look out my window and see it flying over the ocean!

We were at Butterfly Beach today when one of these planes flew over. Definitely military, and looked like a huge tank of a plane. It was flying so low that my daughter could clearly see the crew looking out at the beach. Followed 10 or 20 minutes later by one of their huge helicopters. It is pretty cool to see these giant machines up close. I did get a pic of the helicopter, if anyone's interested, which, while not such a great pic, depicts the altitude (lack thereof?) well.

Yeah, 4-5 flights today. One to the hospital; an unbaffled helicopter. I can't complain, wouldn't do any good, but they shake my walls. I need to move into a newer building. And people used to complain about hospital flights...

Ducky, same two flew over East Beach this afternoon btwn 1 and 3pm. The tourists, beach camp kids and us locals were all amazed at how low they were.

Windows have been rattling over in San Rogue off and on for days. Is it safe to fly that low?

That is a helicopter, not a plane, isn't it?

OP here. Thanks for sharing your info and to Ducky! I'd love to see the Grumman!! C-130 Hercules sounds right. Definitely a "tank" of an aircraft. Always a treat to see these beasts in the sky. Too bad we have to get past the snark-infested comments to find the real information. Let it go, Shakey, whatever IT is.

This picture is of our Military Helicopters which fly over anywhere. Smile, jump up and down and waive to our wonderful soldiers flying overhead, they'll waive back and you'll make their day!
