A man claiming to be with the SB Sheriff's department called with my name,
address, phone number claiming that a judge issued a bench warrant for
not showing up for jury duty. When I asked for his supervisor, he hung up.
The real Sheriff's department says it is a scam to wire money to "clear the

Scam alert - A woman in Montecito was the target of a scammer this week.
Here's her story: "I got a phone call from a 'Sheriff's Dept' Lt. Williams who said I
missed a jury duty notice and he had a warrant for my arrest. He wanted me to
purchase a $495 Green Dot Money Pak. He sounded real at first, but of course
it's not. I called the Sheriff's Office to confirm, and they said they did not make the
call. This 'Lt. Williams' has a syrupy Southern accent. I called him back , said he
was a fraud and hung up."
