Solstice Presentation and Practice Photos!
updated: Jun 19, 2014, 1:00 PM

By Robert Bernstein

Pali X-Mano is one of the star artists in residence at Solstice. On Tuesday he gave a presentation at the Jewish Community Center on some of the behind the scenes work of Solstice.

He showed the materials and tools used to create some of the art. And how recycled materials are used in creative ways. For example, to create eyeballs from ping pong balls and Starbucks packaging! He showed how a concept starts with a sketch, moves to a model and then is created from fabric, paper mache, Styrofoam, hot glue and a variety of everyday materials used in innovative ways!

The Solstice theme this year is "Games" and Pali's ensemble this year is "Flamboyant Bowling Games". A giant flaming bowling pin with an aerial dancer suspended inside! Along with ten pins dancing and bumping with a bowling ball character.

On Wednesday, my own Games ensemble "Unicycle Slalom" practiced at La Patera School.

Here are my photos!

And don't forget: There is still time to help at the Workshop and to participate in the parade! You can be one of Pali's bowling game characters or another ensemble character! Come on down to the Workshop at the corner of Ortega and Garden Streets!

Best wishes, Robert
