Montecito & SYV Water Woes

Dozens of Montecito residents are asking the Montecito Water District to waive penalties for exceeding monthly water allocations due to leaking pipes and breaks in service lines. Due to the dwindling water supply the board has denied all appeals for new meters and higher allocations.

In a separate article reported by The Independent the Santa Ynez River Water Conservation District is responding to issues about water quality. There are high levels of hexavalent chromium-6 that violate water quality standards that go into effect July 1. The Santa Ynez district will be forced to shut down about half its wells that serve 6,700 customers.
