And we are on our computers contributing to society. I bet if they were driving people would complain about wasting gas etc. sometimes I wonder why anyone would do certain jobs to help people

OP - The depth and reach of local law enforcement should not be underestimated - if you need them, they will be there. There's a lot to worry about and be concerned with in the world but most of it is not really our concern to have. Our families, friends and jobs.....those are where legit concerns lie and those concerns should all be leveraged with kindness and forethought....I'm sure that was your intent when you wrote this yes?

I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation that we'll never ever know about.

Sounds like they are out and about so I don't know what the concern would be. If their emergency lights were flashing then I might be interested. I would rather have the sheriff be out in a public place than hanging out at their headquarters.

There's a Sheriff's sub-station located in the Camino Real Shopping Center. Go to the Sheriff Dept. Website and find out about it.

Volumes have been written as to why the chicken crossed the road, now more will be written as to why the Sheriffs congregated in the parking lot. My theory? They gathered there because they can.

The thing is I could have several scanners on and still miss a call sometimes it drives me nuts. Sometimes it's not a call at all they just meet up this probably was a call and I missed it.. There is a lot of calls involving homeless, panhandlers, and drunks in that area. There was one this morning in a sleeping bag near OSH, Fire and medics responded and the guy ranaway maybe they found him that was 100 Block of South Fairview..

Might have something to do with the specialized motorcycle safety enforcement operation going on today.

Calle Real Center runs along Calle Real starting at Kellogg and ending about a quarter mile from Fairview. It's where Trader Joe's is. The mall where OSH is is called the Fairview Center. The giant Camino Real center is several miles from there.

those of us who live nearby consider OSH and Fairview Center as continuation of Calle Real shopping, what difference does it make? Glad the officers were there for whatever reason. Sometimes they cruise our neighborhood for no specific reason and we're grateful there's a presence.

This site sometimes reminds me of the show "Bewitched", but instead of one "Gladys Kravitz" , there is a multitude of them.

Most likely a meeting or briefing possibly at the substation. Law enforcement will meet, brief and confer frequently, for example to discuss security arrangements for VIP's arriving at the nearby airport or UCSB perhaps as commencement speakers or for traffic and parking control at the upcoming graduation ceremonies, etc. etc.

LEOs are supposed to be public servants and there certainly isn't anything wrong with public scrutiny of their activities.

For example, during the 1960s police were responsible for all sorts atrocities - if everyone had looked the other way, would anything have ever changed for the better? I think not.
