June 10, 2014 - Portrait of a Bee

Charles Brewster shared this photo of a honey bee posing for the camera. Did you know honey bees have 170 odorant receptors? Their sense of smell is so precise that it could differentiate hundreds of different floral varieties and tell whether a flower carried pollen or nectar from metres away. Make sure you wear deodorant during the next bee visit, unless you want them steering clear.

In local news, it's been a typical busy Monday. Leadbetter Beach has been closed after a Great White shark sighting, a subscriber reports an interesting change for the News-Press, and edhat commenters can't seem to wrap their heads around yarn bombing.
