Monday-Monday, Hope you all had a Lovely Weekend. Mine was OK, just a crazy old man taking care of his crazy old cat. It's amazing what a new chair will do. Was sitting on a plastic stool for a few weeks I thought I was dying from what it was doing to my mid-section. I started walking again little by little and eating better but sitting on that stool for hours then trying to get up 12 inches from the floor in my condition weight, bad back, and neuropathy on my legs quite painful. I was pretty healthy for many years but now I cannot move so well but the chair helps big time because I don't have to push myself from the floor every time I try to get up. I tried to convince myself it was exercise but it was hurting me more than anything, anyway life is better with the chair now I hope it holds awhile.

I was thinking the other day that it would be cool if there was a program for kids that are headed for prison, where they would do pre hard time, kinda like preschool I know it's been done 1000 times over in different ways. Scared Straight started in the early 70's in New Jersey a couple years later they had Scared Straight set up in other states. I was one of the first to be sent to prison as a kid at Terre Haute, Indiana along with a group. I'm not sure if others were paid but we got paid to go thru the experience it was not like the program in New Jersey that one seemed a little more intense. We were not given a tour of the prison cells the prisoners did not whistle at us or call us fish or do anything sexual to scare us. They did yell at us a little while doing their little skit on stage but it wasn't all that violent except for the yelling. We each had an inmate tell us their story, one on one, we viewed morgue shots of inmates who committed suicide or were murdered in prison they were in (black and white), and then inmates got on stage and told their stories. At first we were all kinda shook up that we could end up in prison but I don't think anyone was really "Scared Straight" Several of the Boys that were in the Boys home with me and experienced Indiana's version of Scared Straight went to prison later on a couple for murder. As for me I was lucky I managed to dodge that bullet but came pretty close a couple times because alcohol wasn't the good friend I thought it was. Usually when I got into trouble booze was involved.

Now and again I like to search for guys I was in that boys home with see what they are up to. I think many of them are dead. I found one on Facebook the last I heard of him he killed 3 people but looking at his profile on Facebook, it looks more like he's been a family man all these years. I never found any documented proof he killed anyone and I searched. Another fella is doing an 8-12 year stretch on weapons charges at you guessed it Terre Haute, he's been mostly in prison all his life he was the leader of the gang I was in 40 some odd years ago. Another guy got "Life" in prison for a horrible murder at 15 years of age and he's out now for how long only thy great Dog knows... I think the best deterrent to keeping young people from going to prison was what judges used to do in the day. Give them the choice of prison or the Military. I think the Military has saved many a soul from a life of violence and crime although it did not work for me. I had asthma and was always afraid of not being able to breathe otherwise I might have joined the Marines instead of the National Guard and the Navy, even after getting the boot from both services, the Marines wanted me to join up. I had other plans though. I kinda wanted to travel, hit the road, but of course I met a girl in Santa Barbara and that was it. It's all her fault. The End. Just Kidding. I guess they don't do that anymore give someone the choice of Prison or the Military but for what it's worth I think it would work better than most things.

As for me I think I was hurt inside and needed to be healed. Having a cat in my life helped better than other things. Now we're both a couple old farts and his health isn't doing so well. Tomorrow I get the word on a surgery for him on some cancer. He's not in agony so I find no reason to end his life. I have a couple hundred some friends have helped out some. I'm thinking about that "Go fund Me" website but I really don't know how to go about all that. Maybe there's a market for "Old Fat Man Strip Tease" People would pay me to put my clothes back on. I'm sure when it's his time he will let me know, I don't like to think about that, I would want to go with him. I have a friend from my home town that lives in Northern California. He has a dog and his dog's going through rough times too. He's the same way I am, with his dog. It's funny how Animals can soften a mean old heart. Will that's it outta me for now. Gotta spend a little time trying to clean up my little house; the scrap is piling up. 29 Separate shootings in Chicago over the Weekend although it's not their fault their Mayor blames the state of Indiana for their laws which are different from those in Chicago. I guess he thinks that Indiana ought to do things his way. Personally I think if Indiana did things his way there would be more shootings in Indiana, so there's that. Anyway have a great Monday and Dog willing we will see you on Wednesday. Later, Roger
