Stuck Birds
updated: Jun 08, 2014, 8:35 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

I have 2 birds (house finches I believe) stuck inside the hotel lobby where I work. One is a baby and can't really fly so its on the ground behind a display. Any ideas or a number to call to help get em out?

Can you leave the doors open? Or did fly in through a window?

I've seen birds spend 24 hours in the Daily Grind and eventually fly out the open door. Good luck.

Hello,
Unfortunately, the SBWCN is not active at night. You could call them at 681-1080 and leave a message in case someone should be checking the calls. (There's a long message to sit through before you can leave a message.)

As for the baby, if you could pick it up and, perhaps by putting a lightweight cloth over it, and put it in a box --- and then bring the box to CARE at Garden and Haley, they will hold it for the SBWCN. The adult should fly out the door, as suggested.

Thank you for being concerned!

Depending on where the hotel is, where you are and if this is way out of your way, you could leave the box at the hotel --- and someone from the SBWCN could pick it up in the morning and bring it to the care facility at the end of FAirview.

I don't think you should separate the baby and mom but not sure. Animal Rescue Team do you have advice? Perhaps you should call them if you can't get sbwcn. Animalrescueteam.net for contact info.

SBWCN monitors the phones until about 10PM. 681-1080. If you don't want to listen to all the directions etc, push pound.

Try to keep doors & (unscreened) windows wide open so both can get out. Keep pets away from young bird on floor. If possible, gently pick up young bird and place in thick shrub right outside lobby. Hopefully parent will hear baby peep & reunite with baby outside and they will continue on their way of feeding & fledging!

OP here. Glad to get the brilliant idea of leaving the door open I sure didn't think of that...

After an hour or so I picked up the little guy and did exactly what LILBIRD suggested and we were able to get the other one out afterward.
