June 08, 2014 - Lizard's Mouth Yarn

The Yarnbomber's most recent installation at Lizard's Mouth has been a much talked about topic on edhat these last few days. The National Forest Service approved the reinstallation of the temporary art pieces, which incorporate the work of 388 fiber artists from 36 countries and all 50 states on 17 massive boulders. Yarnbomber says his work is designed to draw people back to nature and encourage them to "Go Outside and Play!" Aquaholic got up on Friday morning and headed to Lizard's Mouth with her camera to snap photos as he worked to get the knitted art back up for this weekend.

Animal Rescue Team, Inc. had a busy week, rescuing several wild creatures such as a mama opossum and a baby great blue heron. They also have been caring for six fawns.

Our Cat of the Week is Jenny, a cat who is looking for her purr-fect home. Our Dog of the Week is Woody, a rescue pit bull mix who is so happy to be part of a pack now. Our Non-profit of the Week is Heal the Ocean, a citizen's action group committed to ending ocean pollution. Chuck talks about cats eyes in the skies, Karen Keskinen shares an excerpt from her newly released mystery novel, Black Current, and local filmmaker Gady Shemesh highlights the true identity of the Isla Vista community. Beachbummer continues his trip down memory lane with photos of 1970s Santa Barbara restaurants and professional athlete Gabrielle Reece worked out for a cause.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: Heal the Ocean is a non-profit citizen's action group committed to ending ocean pollution. They focus on wastewater infrastructure as well as ocean dumping practices that have contributed to ocean pollution.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Woody, a rescue dog happy to now be part of a pack.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Jenny, a recent mother looking for her purr-fect home.
