June 1, 2014 - Historic Bates Ranch House

In David Powdrell's column this week, he got the opportunity to explore and photograph the historic Bates Ranch House. Set on 1,200 acres from the Carpinteria foothills down to the ocean the property was originally purchased by Dr. Charles Bell Bates, the first doctor in Santa Barbara County. Read David's full article here.

It has been a full week since the tragedy in Isla Vista. Our community is slowly healing and quickly coming together for support of the victims and their families. Recently two survivors came forward with interviews to National media organizations. The interviews can be viewed through this link. Several local organizations and companies have started donation funds for victims and raise money for a memorial in Isla Vista. One of these is through the Santa Barbara Foundation and titled The Victims of Isla Vista Fund. Visit sbfoundation.org for more information on how to donate.

Our Dog of the Week is Lulu, a hound with a human personality. Our Cat of the Week is Lantana, a sweetie looking for a home. Our Non-Profit of the Week is the Montecito Historical Archives who preserves the historic community and records. Rosie makes some delicious looking Spanish paella, Jenny takes her music review to the stage for American Idiot, Goleta Surfing heads east, and edhatters discuss historic locations.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------
