USS Ronald Reagan Coming to SB
updated: May 29, 2014, 4:00 PM

The USS Ronald Regan (CVN 76) is on its way in to town. It will be visiting from May 30 - June 1.

This thing dwarfs the cruise ships we've seen so far! It's a Nimitz-class nuclear powered 'supercarrier', 1,092 feet long and 252 feet wide. More fun facts on the Wikipedia page.

The only information about this visit that I've been able to find is on the website of the Santa Barbara Navy League.

Finally, a reminder to people heading out on small boats or kayaks this weekend -- the Navy enforces a security zone around the ship, something like 500 yards if I remember correctly. They're not kidding, believe me.

Thanks Edhat!

Update: An edhatter was fishing on the wharf this evening and saw this security tent complete with scanners.
