Isla Vista Candlelight Vigil
updated: May 24, 2014, 9:30 PM

By the Dedicated Staff of edhat.com

Residents of Isla Vista formed a vigil on Saturday evening for those who passed in the tragic mass murder. Organized through Facebook, community members created a candlelight vigil to come together, heal, comfort, and pay tribute. Starting at 7:30pm, the crowd met at Storke Tower and listened to speakers. Then the crowd led a memorial walk through Isla Vista to Anisqoyo Park where the vigil continued.

Following the tragic deaths of 7 students in Isla Vista, students and community leaders gathered in a very solemn candlelight vigil to show their solidarity and grief. This shot was taken at 8 pm on Saturday, May 24 when the community gathered at Storke Plaza and shows maybe one half of the gathering. The crowd of mostly students was estimated by a media person to be about 3500. They walked in a long procession through the campus to Isla Vista.

From lower right to left is City Councilwoman, Cathy Murillo, County Supervisors Janet Wolf and Doreen Far, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Mayor Helene Schneider and Congresswoman Lois Capps.

Walking in the procession were Assembly member Das Williams and County Supervisor Salud Carbajal.
