Scanner Reports 5-23-14
updated: May 23, 2014, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

It's FRYday. Sometimes I hear some pretty weird crimes over the Scanner and I wonder why some people commit crimes. Are they bored? Or Stupid? Like this carjacking on Casitas Pass Wednesday morning; subject approached victim showed no weapon and asked her to get out of the car. She did, he took it. I'm sure she did not know whether or not he had a weapon at the time; he could have been packing a concealed weapon. I was thinking the vehicle was taken for the Spoiler on the back. It was too early in the morning for me to register in my mind that this guy carjacked a Volvo.

Thinking about that now reminds me of the time I saw what looked like a professional car thief steal an AMC Pacer back in the 70's in Fort Wayne, Indiana when I lived on the street. I remember startling the Pacer thief by busting out laughing at him at his choice of vehicle to steal. Who steals a Volvo? Someone on the run perhaps, or maybe someone not in the right frame of mind. First I heard the car was headed toward Carp. Then I heard it was headed South on the 101, then North past Santa Claus Lane on the right shoulder. I figured the guy must have been under the influence at this point and it would not end well but about an hour or so later another attempt carjacking a couple blocks away from the first. The suspect seemed to fit the description of the suspect committing the earlier crime except this time I heard that the subject was standing in the middle of the road dazed. I don't know if the same person committed both crimes but from what I was hearing there was a good possibility. Either way SBSO captured him quick the Volvo was found soon after, maybe he realized he ripped off a Volvo. Not that there is anything wrong with stealing a Volvo. I don't think they are up on the list of best vehicles to steal; at least it wasn't an AMC Pacer.

I heard another one made me think a little although I don't know if any crime was committed the call was suspicious. There was a fella pacing back and forth in front of a business in the 1200 Block of Coast Village Road holding onto a steak knife. At one point he went into the business and asked them to call him a Taxi Cab, then went back to pacing. The people concerned that this guy was pacing back and forth holding onto a knife called the Black and White Taxi service. I'm not sure the driver caught up with the fare. Last I heard subject was heading toward Middle Road. I'm wondering if the fella just went to a restaurant and took the knife with him because he wanted it, or was thinking of sticking someone with the knife and was pacing back and forth.

Found this in an online website, "Gazette Staff Police are looking for William L. Who is wanted on a warrant." Suddenly I got an idea; one of my better ones The Edhat Police. We could all get little hardhats with revolving lights on top and carry two way radios. MISTA could be our Leader/Police Chief. Could you imagine the Edhat Police? No one would get busted because we'd be too busy kicking the scrap outta each other. It would be a lot of fun.

    Scanner Roni Reports, Thursday:

  • Roger Dodger Crash and Burn, Quinientos at Milpas Approx. 2pm Thursday. So I went to Fresh and Easy, and Little Cesar's where I got two pizzas, then Rite Aid where I got chips, soda, and gum. Leaving Rite Aid I realized I left my cane at Little Cesar's trying to get away from the panhandlers and hookers. I was using a Trader Joes cart because I was on the shopping center property and I did not think they would mind if I just zipped across the street to get my cane at Little Cesar's. It's a lot easier to push a cart when you're crippled up anyway so off I went. The cart was pretty full and I grabbed some Independents as I passed Carl's. The light had just turned green in my favor and I walked a little faster. Then, when I did not expect it tragedy struck. The front of the grocery cart got hung up on something and in slow motion the cart started to flip the vehicles stopped no one made a move although I'm sure the Dirty Dogs all had their Cell phone cameras out. As the cart flipped all the contents from the cart went with it onto Quinientos street; my Little Cesars Pizza, the Independent, my groceries, my soda, EVERYWHERE!!! I Screamed "Noooooooooooooo!!!" I did not fall but totally twisted my body throwing a real stupid looking Temper Tantrum right there in the street telling off Dog in front of the whole world. BOY DID I FEEL STUPID! "You, I yelled, this is all your fault! Double middle fingers pointed toward the sky...And now I'm going to HELL for flipping you off!!!" I didn't hear any laughing because I'm sure they were doing it under their breath. I have no doubt I'm going to see it somewhere; Edhat, Facebook, Craigslist, You Tube, I'm just grateful there was no police cars, or Fire trucks nearby. I can hardly move now and it's just as well at least maybe I made someone that was having a bad day laugh.
  • Premise check Ortega Park.

  • 207 Kidnapping Santa Maria 1500 Block of Stow Black male with mustache ripped one year old Hispanic child out of mother's arms and took off toward Black Road in a blue Chevy pickup truck.
  • Somewhere in town a female called 911 to report that she was hearing voices this was around 6:30am when KEYT was on. I wonder if she was watching KEYT and heard the voices because I was watching KEYT, and besides the newscasters voices I could hear other voices coming thru the TV as if there were people talking inside the studio in the background. As soon as I switched channels I stopped hearing the voices and knew that I was cured.

  • Brandishing a screwdriver and possibly something more lethal 100 Block of Soledad involved were a group of wanna be Mensa members cruising around in a Pontiac Grand AM which was registered in the 1200 Block of Quinientos Street. SBPD quickly responded to the area as the vehicle was reported to be last seen on Milpas, I was out there in front watching all the police cars, bicycles etc. go by looking for the vehicle they found parked in the 100 Block of North Soledad so perhaps they just drove around the block. Anyway I'm pretty sure the police arrested someone over this because I heard a lot of talk about the suspects home, vehicle, 3 pit bulls inside of their home the clothing they were wearing hair color, I also heard something about a jersey but never heard actual arrest. Sounds like the neighbors are not as scared as they are fed up.
