You'd be surprised how many Estate Sales are held on a Sunday. That's what I would keep an eye out for. Less competition.

All the pushy mean dealers in town have destroyed the estate fun. Has anyone ever noticed that all "garage" sales in Montecito are titled "estate" sales? BIG DIFFERENCE!

LOL @991, You're right. Some people think because they have a large home they can call their garage/yard sales estate sales. It is pretty funny.

I always liked the Mobile Home Estate sales! I don't believe it refers to the size of the home, I think it is designated as someone who died and the estate is selling their belongings. Sundays for some of them is 1/2 off.

The Clearing House here in SB! Get on their email list for notices of upcoming sales. Here's their website:

The Clearing House is way overpriced. Skip the Clearing House Sales unless you have $$$ to burn..The Girl that runs it is very unpleasant.

If the Clearing House is overpriced, then how do you explain the lines to check out at their sales? I guess some people just don't realize how much nice things cost new, so they don't understand what a deal buying something used can be.

The great thing about estate sales is you can often find Stuff for less than new prices, which means you save money and can then buy more Stuff! Which is great because having Stuff is the secret to happiness!

I don't mind a garage sale as per ordinance (one per year, with a permit). I do mind these companies that handle some of these sales and their signs illegally posted all over town. There are two groups in the North County that refuse to follow any rules re signs. STay away from those people. They could care less about neighbors or communities.

Do people in this town really know how much something is worth or do they just pay high prices for used stuff because there isn't as much of it in this county as others and they don't go out of town so they wouldn't know about the better deals. Things are way overpriced, jmho.

Beware of what I call "staged" Estate Sales. That's where the dealer brings a bunch of their unsold "antiques" and such into a house, and then tries to pass it all off as having belonged to the owners.

Some of the dealers in SB are like jackals or vulchers. It is disgusting. My suggestion try craigslist and buy direct from the original owners. If you really want to go to an estate sale go late in the day and buy only what you want or really need.
