Task Force Targets Train Track Trespassers
updated: May 20, 2014, 8:28 PM

By John Palminteri

A crackdown is underway this week in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Oxnard. So far, there have been both tickets and arrests. Pedestrians who go over the tracks when the crossing arms are down, are violating the laws according to Union Pacific. They also say drivers, especially on Montecito St. in Santa Barbara, are known to go around the crossing arms while the train is in the station. With two tracks in the area, another train could still be coming through, and the risks are very high. Today several citations were written and one trespasser was arrested for possession of drugs. They also have the Operation Lifesaver information table set up with pamphlets and tips that help you walk and drive safely near the tracks. Be smart and safe around the train tracks - always!

Does anyone know what caused five Santa Barbara patrol cars to be grouped on Modoc Road at the Palermo intersection about 3:00 today? (05/21/14)
