La Primavera
updated: May 19, 2014, 9:15 AM

By Abomb

La Primavera marks the beginning of the Fiesta season, and this was a special event as always. This year's event began with a VIP cocktail hour at Orenas Adobe, with appetizers being prepared by Tony Arroyo himself (owner of Los Arroyos), and served by his son whose photo can be seen in the Figueroa Street location.

The main event was held at El Paseo Restaurant, and John Palminteri was our enthusiastic emcee. There was no shortage of humor as he kept the program flowing. El Presidente Dennis Rickard shared about his family's deep history in Santa Barbara and Old Spanish Days. The Junior Spirit and Spirit of Fiesta both performed exquisite dances. The Spirit was dancing so intensely that she lost both her earrings during the performance! This year's official poster and pin were unveiled, reflecting the 90th anniversary of Old Spanish Days. This year there was also a photo booth for partygoers to commemorate the occasion.

The food was delicious, and in classic Fiesta style, the alcohol was also flowing! No Fiesta party would be complete without a good drunk person story. So cheers to the woman at our table who had one too many cocktails before the salad was even served, who asked the same questions to everyone in our party at least 3 times. Hope you made it home safely, friend!

Viva La Fiesta!
