Orbs in the Sky

Light orbs in the sky!

In the La Cumbre Plaza area, I noticed my neighbors all outside Friday night around 11:30, gawking at the sky. As I looked up, I began to see waves of light orbs, in bird-like wing/v formations flying overhead. Like 30-40 per formation. What was chilling was the speed at which they switched formation before disappearing. All the neighbors agreed they had never seen anything like it. Chilling!

So, chime in scientists. Bird migration being lit up at the perfect altitude by the full moon? I really wanted to think that but the movement and formation switching is like nothing ive ever seen short of small drone formations.

Anyone else see them?

Fireflies. Happens all the time in the South.....

Really 709? I grew up in the south and never saw fireflies in a V formation or fly at high speed.

Did you get any idea as to whether these were small objects near the ground, or larger objects at a much higher altitude?

709 - "fireflies" is a highly unlikely explanation - as most Californian fireflies are not bioluminescent, and those that are give off a very dim light only visible at very close range. Furthermore, fireflies not not fly in organized V-shaped formations (!), but in random fashion.

Re. migratory birds: the Moon at 11-30pm in SB was 14º above the horizon and might have been at an angle sufficient to illuminate the underside of birds - but since migratory birds mostly fly between 5,000ft-20,000 altitude, could reflected moonlight be observed from the ground in a well lit area? I doubt.

Another explanation appears to be needed.

Search Internet for pics of what is referred to as a "murmuration". Also, when pelicans fly together, they form a "V" formation that looks very stealthy and fairly precision minded. Just a few possible ideas...

Several birders are out with their scopes while the moon is full or almost full doing counts as migration is winding down now. Most birds fly under 7400 at night while migrating and smaller ones fly at 800-1600'. Some fly much higher with the record being 29,000' for the Bar-headed Goose flying over the Himalayas.

Funny, I used to help my pappy with his still late into the early hours and I swear we saw these little critters flying in “V” formation - sometimes in crocodile mode too - singing loudly Ole Man's River - he keeps on rolling and reeling along.............

Hm. Can't remember the time, but I was outside and saw these contrails, many of them, seemingly had come out of one central location - and they sprawled out in all directions from this one location. From where I live, it would have been over La Cumbre plaza. I was wondering if it was some sort of military exercise. Very strange!

They were very high up, no bugs. Pretty much 2 choices here from what I witnessed, in order of probability as I see it:

1: bird migration at high altitude with hot thermal unusual weather allowing for high speed formation changes unlike anything ive ever seen with full moon illumination.

2: Vandenberg drone quadracopter formation testing

3: Unidentified flying objects.

Regardless, myself, my neighbors, and my parents (very scientific were stumped. Cool thing to witness!

I was outside about that time too. The only thing I saw was a lot of chem trails. I remember thinking that was a lot of seeding for some rain. It could be the chem trails settling and taking the shape of the winds. It did get foggy later and I was thinking well that worked at least we has some misting. Since the chem trails were multiple criss / crossing each other. They could settle into a v formation and fly at the speed of the wind, And they were light white color.

The contrails we see in SB often converge (or diverge) rather than remain parallel as they do in other areas, such as over the CA Central Valley. This is because jets in the Valley are usually following the established airways. Over SB the jets leaving or joining the airways are vectored in various directions by ATC as they come from and go to the various busy airports in the LA basin.

Saw similar kind of chilling light orb (Singular) a few years ago above 1000 steps. Definitely chilling. The speed + movement of it was unlike any aircraft my bf nor I have ever seen or heard of. Started doing figure 8's, then "cradling" back and forth. Trippy!

How do you see chem trails at 11:30 pm at night?

Since chemtrails are imaginary, I would suggest falling asleep.
