Local Cleaning Company Referral
updated: May 14, 2014, 8:59 PM

We're a corporate office here in downtown Santa Barbara and have been displeased with our commercial cleaning service for some time. Do you have any recommendations for local cleaning companies? We are even looking into hiring a part-time housekeeper versus using a cleaning company. All suggestions are welcome!

Karen's Cleaning is the best. It has been in town a long time. Perfection is the name.

Unique Maintenance has been in SB for 30+ years, and do excellent work. Henry is the owner, and they have several commercial contracts with banks. 962-4053. Good luck!

I have been using Karens Kleaning for over 20 years at home and they have been great. I had tried individual housekeepers before that and there was always a problem about the individual showing up when scheduled; they'd go on long vacations or get sick or have another commitment. With Karen's, someone will definitely be there when they say they will. They must treat employees well because I have had the same person for many years, and I like that they pay worker's comp and ss and taxes, so no one will be coming after you years later claiming they were owed for this or that, or got injured on the job and now you personally owe them. Safer than hiring an individual and much more reliable.

We have used Master Clean, and highly recommend them. 805-751-8981

I echo 089. Karen has been in business well over 30 years and I would never patronize anyone else. I can only speak though for myself and the private client. I know not if she works for commercial clients.

Video tape all of your belongings. Open drawers and closets and film there. Don't be afraid to switch cleaners every 6 months or so. In my experience, the quality lasts for a few months and once the decline starts, it's a slippery slope and goes down hill fast.

105 Don't pick cleaners willy nilly. One goes to reputable insured companies who value their reputation.

Secure and put away one's valuables by all means. But don't be paranoid.

And don't forget - Karen's is the best

If you are using an agency or professional service that vets their employees and provides all the needed insurance and bonding you generally do not have to worry. You should make sure that the company will cover any damage or breakage occurring as a result of one of their employees errors and also, if you are paying an hourly rate, there are strict rules as to when cleaners arrive and begin and when they end as well as on the job cell phone use. There is not enough room here to go into the many reasons these are needed. As you might imagine, if you are hiring a person directly yourself you shoud have a written contract, probably drawn by a knowledgeable lab or law atttorney covering such things as independent contractor versus employee, insurance like workers compensation, property loss and damage, strict hours to avoid claims of unpaid overtime, payroll taxes and witholding, etc. etc.

I also like MasterCare, but I don't know if they do commercial cleaning. They are locally owned and pay their employees a good wage with benefits. They also give back to the community in charitable donations.
I feel better knowing that their employees are treated well.

Another vote for Karen's - I liked that they gave me an estimate for cleaning the hovel and that is what it cost me. They did a great job and now come in regularly....at least I can find the pigs in my sty now.
