Specialty Dog Food

Does anyone know where I can buy raw chicken necks for my dog? (And yes, raw chicken necks for a big dog is perfectly safe.) I'm getting them now frozen from an expensive pet store but I know there's got to be a cheaper way to do it.

My father in law drives to LA with a huge cooler, goes to a processing plant, has them fill it up once a month. They charge him $30. a load. The weight varies between 90 - 100 lbs. Just thought I'd share the story - sorry not to help your needs. All of his dogs have been on the RAW diet forever.

I've always been told that unless you enjoy watching your pets die a slow, painful death you should not feed dogs chicken bones..

My vet does not advise chicken necks for dogs for they are dangerous . The bones can splinter, lodge in the throat and cause severe damage, both in the throat, digestive tract and intestines..

348 - read the OP's post. The dog is large and is being fed necks, not legs etc. Necks chew and come apart very differently from other chicken bones if you've ever eaten them. I will eat neck bones. No way I would ever try eating breast bones etc. Perhaps you or your vet need to expand your culinary horizons?

I have Irish Wolfhounds so mere chicken necks are not enough! I buy 40lb boxes of turkey necks from Dave Whitefoot who is now working at Country Catering Meat Market and Deli at 5925 Calle Real in Goleta. In this heat I give them to them frozen and it is the ultimate dog popsicle. You need to order the box and it comes in 2-3 days from their supplier.

That was one of the last straws for going to the east side closing Whitefoots, I miss Janet

There is a real butcher left in the area!!!

Thanks, everyone! I just talked to Steve at Country Meat Market and I'll be getting some frozen turkey necks (good idea!) from them soon. So glad to know that Dave Whitefoot is still working in town. So grateful to edhat and the edhat community for helping me with this!
