Dental Work

Does anyone know a sympathetic budget-understanding Santa Barbara area dentist who needs a new patient (80s) ? I need someone who might replace a broken-off-at-gumline left front #10 for for my barely affordable $650? I can get it on vacation in Antigua for $350 but the roundtrip air fare is $619 and can no longer travel well.

Dr. Subject... husband and wife are both dentists, each have their own office and they are wonderful. I go to the female.

There's another dentist literally next door to Dr Symkowiak I have used, Dr. Morteza at Goleta Dental Practice... the same address, one is in suite C, the other in Suite D. Very reasonable costs and very accommodating... low rent district, so no high overhead, I was very pleased with him. I paid cash but pretty sure he also accepts payments.

Someone recently called the KETY tipline and got free dental care from that outreach. It was an older gentleman with severe dental probs and no money.

Glad to know there are affordable alternatives in town. My dentist is great but very pricey.

Barney Valeska - the greatest dentist and a stellar human being!

Most dentists will give you a 10-20% (or more) discount if you ask + pay in full with cash or a check.

I left one dentist because EVERY time I went there, she had another $500 to $1500 procedure I needed. I can't even remember her name, but she was at State and Alamar. Then a friend referred me to Barney Valeska. He is reasonable and doesn't use every visit to require another procedure that you need. My insurance covers the hygienist's visits and I have only had to pay part when I needed a crown. Very nice guy! Cares about the environment too.

If you can afford a vacation then pay the dentist. Maybe ask for a little discount as they are expensive. It takes a lot to keep an office open.

Johnson's Family Dentist. 687-6767. Just say "I'll think about it" if they recommend expensive treatment.

I've been feeding birds for the past 8 months. The feeder has always been full of birds. A couple days ago the birds left. All of them!! I haven't had a bird in 5 days. I am not a bird person, though I would like to become one, and don't know what happened. Can anyone help me. I have enjoyed them immensely. This happened with my hummingbirds as well but they left a few months ago. Thank you.

Gentle Dental on Montecito St/State St, they are the best; I cannot say that for the Johnson practice.

Another alternative is to go to mexico. The dentist will you pick you up in San diego walk across the border and excellent dental care for one third the price. My husband got two in-plants that way. Even a dentist here in SB said the work was excellent.

211P: very interesting. I had two excellent implants done in Santa Barbara, or, rather, in Noleta, off Patterson, five or six years ago, but the cost was staggering ... and I'll never do it again, here, at least.

How does one find that capable dentist in Mexico? And does one know beforehand the price?

(If the OP is not up to flying to Antiqua, s/he is probably not up to driving to San Diego and walking across the border!)

Try Santa Maria-the dental care is much less expensive and it is close by. Our medical folks here charge way too much. If you go into Inglewood etc you can really save.

My husband found the Mexican Dentist on the web I think it was called Baja Dentist. He said it was a wonderful experience they treated him really well. Catered to his every need. He never had a problem with the work the Dentist did. I personally would be hesitant but he was really happy with the experience. He also had a recommendation from a friend in SB
