May 11, 2014 - Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there! Don't forget to pick up the phone and talk for hours on end with your mom about her favorite soap operas and the racket her neighbors are making. Be sure to take her to her favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden or Marie Callender's, and reminisce about the silly mom things she would always say. "Because I said so," or "I don't care what everyone else is doing," or "Better safe than sorry," or some sayings with expletives that we're not allowed to print, depending on your mom. Share your mom memories with other edhatters, we're sure they'll be interesting!

The results from our Edhat election poll are in and some of the numbers skyrocketed the past few days, raising a few eyebrows. For the majority of the week, Lois Capps led the poll numbers for the US Representative seat by quite a lot, then suddenly Justin Fareed and Chris Mitchum sailed past her within a few days. Was there an influx of Fareed & Mitchum support or a technical glitch? We're not sure but time will tell when the ballots are mailed in come June 3rd. There are two close races happening in our area, Janet Wolf vs. Roger Aceves and Bill Brown vs. Sandra Brown. These numbers have been pretty close but as of now, edhatters are predicting that Janet Wolf will take the 2nd District seat and Bill Brown will remain Sheriff. There's still time to vote here.

Our Dog(s) of the Week are Lila and Bennie, two white fluffy soul mates. Our Cat of the Week is Ramelli, but you can call him Mr. Melski. Our Non-profit of the Week is the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network who rescues injured animals in the county. David comments on the crazy wind that's whipped through town lately, Lauren dines at The Black Sheep, and Bud shares a poem just for moms.
