Is that fancy medical marijuana everyone is talking about? Looks pretty...

Yep...looks like a foxglove cousin - gotta be in same family - I could key it with MUNZ but too tired and lazy tonite.

I think 589 is right, just look at the bottom it's, a growing pot...

I'd agree with heather. Genus name is Erica.

Justicia carnea. Brazilian plume flower. I only know this because a friend posted a photo on Fbook and I asked her what it was called.

Glad to pass this on. I want one for my garden.

Complete retraction of my post of 15 minutes earlier. It's not what I thought. It is Pink Heather.

I can't remember the name, but saw them at Trader Joe's. Spectacular! Yes, Pink Heather.

Beautiful! I'd guess they may sell out at TJs after so many people on Edhat know about it. Thanks for the picture.

So...Justicia is a tropical plant with thick leathery leaves and tall plumes of 1 1/2-2" flowers. Better get out that Munz.

It is a type of Erica verticillata, I believe, from So. Africa, with very large flowers for the genus as a whole It would do best with cool damp weather with even soil moisture and in slightly acid, sandy soil.

Remove the plastic pot cover whatever you do--and plant in morning sun with plenty of peat moss mixed into native soil or use an azalea camellia mix if you move to a slightly larger pot. (no more than 3" lgr. in dia) Don't allow to go dry at any time, nor to sit in a saucer of water for more than 5 minutes or so after watering. Feed with an acid plant food spring, summer, and early fall.

Native relatives of this plant, manzanitas(Arctostaphylos genus), require little to no supplemental water, do not need special soil other than good drainage, have white to pink flowers and some of the most beautiful bark and trunk structure. Consider planting these instead and support your local nurseries and native plants.

And thanks to the previous poster for shedding light.
