Big Private Jets at the Airport?
updated: May 07, 2014, 8:31 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Has anyone else noticed the huge array of big Private jets at the airport? They are parked on both sides of the field, and quite impressive, especially if you realize the investment you are witness to. Curious if this is another gathering of political donations? Something is up !!!

Comments in order of when they were received | (reverse order)

There's an ebb and flow of jets at SBA. I've seen them more packed in at times. Maybe someone will fill us in on what might account for it this time.

Interesting to see the pics of the Rancheros in their pink shirts, with one riding a 'pink' horse. I remember the good ol'days when they descended upon the SY Valley and the prostitutes were out in number. Lots of drinking and debauchery, even one bar room fight that ended with a fatality. Is this stuff still going on but they just wear pink shirts doing it?

Interesting how the very same Capitalism that made this country a world leader has been villanized, and the tools of the leaders of industry are something to be ashamed of. The world leader in aviation, the United States, is now no longer the bench mark, and is taking a back seat without a whimper. Those huge jets are the proof of our once incredible leadership in aviation technology. The center of general aviation, Wichita, KS, is becoming a ghost town.

334 This would be true if Capitalism was the way they made their money. They are Fascist who used their money to influnce the Gov't to make money. The Aviation you speek of was mostly no bid contracts for themselves and buddies and part of the Military Industrial Complex. Both sides are to blame and when both sides own up to it we can move beyond the two party system.

Don't confuse calling out fascist with being anti capitalist. Bill Gates is using his tax free foundation to pay for this weekend is this ok?

Bohemian Club with spurs.

Those prostitutes are still there. Saw a pick-up on Alamo Pintado last Friday.

The wives finally caught on and now come to the valley too, staying and shopping the chi chi shops. They organize wine and cheese tastings, etc for the evenings at camp to give themselves an excuse to monitor the going's-on. It's getting tamer, but it must be a huge flush of money into the valley's economy. Glad the weather has cooled down. Those poor trucked-in horses can take a beating from weekend cowboys.

Haven't been to the airport to see the jets, but we have certainly heard them in North Goleta. Many of the old jets are very noisy and also heavy polluters, emitting visible gaseous fumes and other pollutants that settle over our homes and open spaces.

In amongst the owners of those planes are some of the worst criminals in modern human history - executives of the bankster cartels, Wall Street fraudsters and other financial sector crooks and corporate welfare queens who have collectively stolen, and continue to extort and embezzle $trillions from the US taxpayer, with absolute and total impunity.

And they say that crime doesn't pay?

I'm in the wrong business.....

334. If you and your cohorts here are truly capitalists, I'd suggest you go watch some video's of Ayn Rand or venture into a book store and read yourself some Atlas Shrugged.

These off base perceptions you preach ignore the fundamental principles that make capitalism an ideal. Such as the prevention of monopolization and politically achieved favoritism that builds barriers to entry and segregates wealth from availability.

You and Donald Duck and that pile of gold in that little cartoon cave have a lot in common.

577 - no point trying to defend the indefensible; the history is as clear as daylight. The American people were shafted big time - and even Congress was terrorized and threatened into not interfering with the massive bailouts that followed Wall Street's 2008 (and ongoing) crime spree. The words of Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) come to mind:

"Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day, another couple of thousand the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no."

America has deteriorated into nothing short of a oligarchy, owned and ruled by unelected corporate elite. At worst, an obfuscated plutocracy, ruled by secretive councils of foreign billionaire/banking dynasties.

517334 - that makes no sense. Villainizing an industry does not make it fail. The US still makes and sells aircraft Boeing is still a world leader in commercial aircraft.

Capitalism means that good ideas and good quality win, and poor quality and poor ideas fail.

Almost every successful corporation starts small, nimble, and with an enthusiastic "family" of employees/owners who mutually profit from the arrangement. Then they grow, and the owners cash out via public ownership, and the familial and enthusiastic aspects soon disappear as subsequent management lines its own pockets by essentially looting the company under the guise of "shareholder value", which includes squeezing the employees, who are now seen as "assets". What ensues is a death spiral, exacerbated by the short horizons for decision making. Instead of being allowed to die, these bloated structures are, these days, treated as "too big to fail", and propped up artificially by government. Plutocracy has arrived.

612... exactly so. We are know that pure communism fails - on account of human nature - and pure capitalism is subject to the same issue. Just like its left leaning nemesis, capitalism is subject to being derailed by nepotism, privilege, favoritism, corruption, influence, racketeering, fraud, embezzlement and other forms chicanery and shenanigans which all make absolutely sure that the utopian notion of the free market - the altar of capitalism - remains just that: an impossibility.

Can you paste the record from that court case? I'm assuming it was andrea read of spitfire aviation who pled guilty since she had a court case pending.

517984- yes that is the case. Still isn't showing in the court records. But I know for a fact that Andrea Read pleaded guilty and got 3 years probation. Moral Turpitude was the charge. Crazy that this is all that she got given the circumstances. If you want more information go to the NTSB site and search for N1055V. Accident happened in Arizona July 2009. Pretty interesting read and I'm shocked that Spitfire Aviation and Andrea Read are still in business.
