Car Circles
updated: May 07, 2014, 3:25 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

As I was driving home on the freeway a car entered on the ramp by the car agencies and did two 360 degree turns and kept going. The car exited on the next exit which was to 150. Due to Cal Trans working, the traffic was slow. I was behind a school bus. Anyone else see this about noon, May 7th?

It's not really clear to me where this occurred. The 150 is in Carp, but there aren't any car agencies that I'm aware of there. The 154 is one offramp northbound after the dealerships along Hope, but I don't think there's any Cal Trans work around there. I thought for a bit it might be in Ventura, but that's the 33. So I think we need to narrow down where this is.

Also, was it done intentionally? Two 360s is like the winner at the end of a NASCAR race and not just an oopsie. That seems like a lot of momentum to do that.

I can't visualize what you are describing. It sounds like the car drove around in 2 circles on the freeway, without hit anything, and continued on its merry way. A 360° usually means a high speed spin out, a doughnut.

If this was 30 years ago, in a blizzard, and in Minnesota, I would know it was. But it's not. Let's just say he did foolish things when nobody was around.

That happened to me once when the road was wet.

I saw a guy do exactly that in front of the construction zone on Ward several years ago - he said 'God told him to do it". I wonder if it is the same guy - was he driving a white Volvo?

Too much horsepower, not enough sense.

I find it awfully silly that someone would post a Yes or a No question on such a well traveled board. Awfully silly that Ed had would allow a yes or no question to be answered. I did however see two Paragliders on the bluff before that exit around that same time in that same slow traffic. One was spinning in 360 degrees though.

This happened in front of me once on the 405. Everyone was speeding along, and suddenly the car in front of me swerved, spun completely around, and then started going straight again. It was stunning. No body got hit, not even a fender bender.

OP. You want to know if anyone else saw this because . . .? You are seeking confirmation that you weren't seeing things? Or are you asking us because you want to share that you saw this double-donut maneuver?

Are you saying this driver purposely spun all the way around twice, to show off? Or do you think he lost control and was just lucky?

OP, if I had seen this - as you did - I would have been on the phone to 911 and NOT waiting until I got home to ask Edhat.

Make/model/anything of substance? No? Then you blew it, buddy, and let's all hope that this dude either pulled it together or was pulled over.

Saw this happen in the rain on a 2 lane hiway many years ago. The car in front of me swerved and did a 180, ended up in the opposite lane, and took off like a rabbit in the other direction. Very surreal.

One 360, maybe, but two NO WAY. Happened to me once on Cliff Drive on the the Mesa. I was driving a new Plymouth Barracuda westbound at the speed limit and a child near the school started to run into the street. I jambed on the brakes (which were not anti-lock then) and the Barricuda, which was notoriously light in the rear end and had a heavy V-8 engine front, literally did a complete 360 in one second and stopped facing west in the same left lane, like nothing had happened. Two 360's would require the driver to have applied the gas at some point to continue the spinning motion, maybe someone in a hurry to get to the 154 to lose money at the casino.

happened in front of us at Arrellaga on ramp, idiot driving too fast with young passengers they spun out in circles and excellerated as it spun, they were scared and then got off at mission. Very dangerous that people don't know how to operate their cars and more than stupid if they do it intentionally!

If they accelerated as it spun then it was no accident ... notice how many 'crop circles' are appearing on city streets. Everyone wants to be a stunt driver.
