During my Cinco de Mayo walk on More Mesa I once again met with the locals. This
one walks with his rear end held high in threat of malodorous venting should he
feel threatened - Pinacate for those wanting a proper name. In the genus Eleodes
for the scientific and Stink bug or Clown Beetle for the more common folk. But
Mr. Beetle, I will call you George for he was my favorite.
This brush rabbit was poised just feet from cactus cover which is probably why he
let me get as close as he did, knowing safety was only a short hop away. He
seemed to regard me with the same fear he might show a tree, for in his mind I
probably couldn't move much faster. It's a good thing I don't have to hunt with
hand and foot for my dinner.
