Long-Term Parking
updated: May 03, 2014, 1:59 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

OK, here's a question: where can one park long-term fairly cheaply in SB? I am leaving Santa Barbara on vacation for two weeks. I am NOT leaving via the airport, and I need to park my car somewhere for those two weeks (I live where there is no off-street parking). In the past I've used friends's driveways and obscure corners of the city but they aren't available this time. Any ideas?

I appreciate your concrete help. Political rants about off-street parking may be valid or invalid, but are not helpful to the question.

Why not use the long-term lot at the airport anyway?

Then, have a friend drive you to whatever your point of debarkation is.

If you are travelling by Amtrak train, there is long term parking available with a validated Amtrak ticket. It is city of Santa Barbara operated and you could ask them.

If you attend a local church, you might ask the staff if you can park in their lot.

There are parking lots near the county clinics that seem to have several non county cars parked there for long periods of time.

City of SB Public Works is in charge of parking lots--you might call them. From their website it looks like the long-term airport lot is the best option.

Also you might just ask a hotel if you could park in their lot for a fee; a privately-owned hotel or bnb might be willing to make a deal.

Someone in your neighborhood might have extra space in their garage or driveway and would be willing to rent. Try posting an ad on craigslist or on Next Door if you use that website. Good luck!

apparently you can park and live indefinitely in your RV on estero in IV. you can also bring your pack of vicious dogs with you, just ask the woman living in the RV by the frisbee golf course. not sure her dogs are vaccinated so you might need some booster shots before you visit her.

Not in my neighborhood. If a car sits and we don't know who it belongs to, we assume you went to the airport in a taxi. So, we call the CHP to come ticket your car, and it will eventually be towed. Find a LEGAL place to park your car.

There are many vacant business buildings being offered for rent. Some have been on the market for may months. They often have large empty parking lots sometimes even lighted at night for safety and security. For a two week period, it is unlikly that there would be any difficulty parking in such a lot but to be safe send a note to the local law enforcement agency, and/or the realty company that has the listing..
