Airbnb reveals their Top 10 Summer Travel Destinations with
Santa Barbara listed as #5.
Airbnb - a San Francisco-based tech company that helps people rent out their spare rooms, entire homes,
or garages to travelers - recently released a list of the top 10 U.S. destinations with the highest percentage
increase in summer bookings compared to 2013.
This is a photo of Oprah's house, but we doubt it's on airbnb.
Santa Barbara came in at #5 with the following statement: "Travelers are exploring a wider range of
coastal locales on the west coast, and interest in this gem has risen 320 percent."
320% ? That is quite the increase. The Dedicated Staff did a quick search on Airbnb's website to see what
types of residences were listed and for how much a night. For a two night weekend stay in mid-July for one
person we found 272 options ranging from an entire home to a shared bedroom. The cheapest option was
$45/night in a shared space [looked like a living room] on APS. The most expensive option: was
$2332/night for the entire Victorian Mansion [also a bed and breakfast] in Los Alamos. Some residents
even promised to provide wine and food for their guests.
Ed was fascinated by the house rules and comments of people who stayed in town. Although one thing he
is curious about is privacy. Do hosts stay there or do they leave? Do they know who is staying at their home? Either way, it's an alternative option
for travelers when visiting and an extra source of income for locals.
