Breakfast on the PCH
updated: May 01, 2014, 10:30 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

Next week I am picking up out of state family at LAX from an early morning flight. I know many places along PCH for a great lunch but none that serve breakfast. Any ideas for a place along the coast?

Don't recall any along the stretch in question.

Maybe try one of the big hotels on the water at Marina del Rey or Shutters Resort on Santa Monica beach.

The restaurant on the Malibu pier, but it does not open until 9A.

You may want to consider the Oceanfront Walk in Venice. Quintessential SoCal beachfront hangout and entertainment with more than a few eateries to choose from.

Patricks Roadhouse, right on PCH in Santa Monica. Funky, friendly and great food. You just might rub shoulders with the 'near famous'….a hangout for real celebs too! Fun place.

Last time we checked restaurant on Malibu Pier was closed.

Paradise Cove is very cool but I believe they only serve brunch on the weekends.

Neptune's Net is fun and convenient but the food is terrible.

OP here, Neptune's was my first thought but they do not serve breakfast. I am checking into Marmalade and Paradise Cove. Thanks!

Re 555: Neptune's Net has gone downhill? How was that possible when it was already at the bottom of the hill? That's part of its appeal. I haven't seen the old biker dude with the bandana lately...

Jack in the Box / Malibu

A couple of Breakfast Jacks before surfing and you're good!

Mrs. Olsons Coffee hut in the 'nard is good too.

Just have to respond to 722, Edhat hater, I have lived on the beach in SB all my life, been going to Malibu to surf for over 40 years, Paradise Cove is one of the nicest beaches in the world, that is why there are $20 million homes there. We think the food is great and the whole experience fun. Yeah you have to be able to afford it and in the Summer it is expensive and crowded, but you are talking LA County, what do you expect.

What about Geoffrey's? Paradise Cove is kinda ghetto.

Otherwise, Malibu Country Market, yes.

Paradise Cove is needlessly overpriced. The beach is nice but I believe you have to be a "member" to park in the lot for the beach as opposed to using the restaurant lot which is not for beach use but only for dining at the restaurant.

Urth Cafe, Main St. Santa Monica. Excellent food awesome coffee. Or lower key, directly across the street, Shoops, it's a Euorpean market, cafe. Good breakfast and sandwiches. They smoke their own Wild Salmon. Pricy but oh-so good. It's where all the SoMo cops eat, enough said.

Malibu Inn has real good food, not fancy, but there's quite a few good ones along the way. Coogies has been there forever, but it's next to grocery store, if you don't mind. Check across the street also, better places in the civic. Don't expect large portions at Brents, shocking for a Deli ! Not Gladstones overpriced fishy smelling crowded. I vote Geoffrey's excellent view right over the ocean, patio dining or inside and great food and service, they've been there over 30 yrs. You can also check out Moonshadows, many celebrities eat there, it's the blue building just after Topanga Beach, right on the waterfront that's also been there oh 40 or more years.

My Malibu pick is Coogies Beach Cafe. Not on the water but good casual California cuisine. Opens at 7:30am.
