Partying at the New Old Vic
updated: Apr 24, 2014, 3:00 PM

Bythe dedicated staff of edhat.com

The dedicated staff of edhat.com was in attendance Wednesday evening at the West Victoria Street Block Party, hosted by a team-up of all of Santa Barbara's hospitality organizations.

There was an Open House, with snacks and drinks at the New Old Vic Theater, and reveling at the new Santa Barbara Public Market. The Arlington Tavern, Olio e Limone, Bouchon Santa Barbara, Scarlett Begonia and SOHO Restaurant and Music Club were serving up small bites of food. It was a beautiful balmy evening in our little blue town, and there were lots of people, young and old, in attendance.

Our first stop was the New Victoria Theatre, fresh from a multimillion dollar reconstruction. Now sporting 300 seats and new everything, there doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. And really, the dedicated staff found it to be quite beautiful; all new, but with the same charm it has always had. We sampled lots of tasty snacks and drinks from restaurants in the Victoria Street neighborhood, and then headed across the street to check out the goings on at the Marketplace. As we were leaving the New Old Vic, we were handed a reusable shopping bag, filled with - yikes! - two point six pounds of paper! C'mon now people, what about Earth Day? Okay there was some other stuff in there too: An "adult rain poncho" (what?) to "protect your assets"(we didn't make that up); a coaster supporting Mallory Dies and vowing never to drink and drive, and four discount coupons for establishments in the Marketplace. The rest was paper - just saying.

The block party continued at the Marketplace; there didn't appear to be an empty seat at any of the restaurants there, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We took some pics with our iPhones (don't tell Ed, but we forgot our camera).
