The Santa Barbara City Council voted 5-2 to defend the gang injunction on Tuesday during a public hearing. This was the first public vote in favor of the injunction and is scheduled to go to trial on May 5th.

The room was filled with community members who opposed the injunction while only one person was heard in favor. Councilman Gregg Hart and Councilwoman Cathy Murillo were vocal against the injunction and asked the city attorney withdraw the civil case and stop the process. They argued that this has cost the city and police department over $600,000.

Ultimately the council voted 5-2 to defend the injunction in court next month.
