Tea Cup House
updated: Apr 23, 2014, 4:30 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

I have cousins coming from Georgia and want to "take them around". One of the things I wanted to drive by was the Santa Barbara house with the tea cups stacked in the front yard. I thought I saw that on Edhat once, but cannot find it in the archives. Anyone able to help me on this?

Never heard of this. Where is the house with the teacups?

There is a house made out of books but I haven't heard of Tea Cups in the front yard. Do you mean the Tea House?

Do you mean the "Tea Gardens" off of Mountain Drive? Private property....this means you! ;)

Since I'm not a paid member, you'll have to figure out the link, but I think this is what you're looking for:

OP here. Thank you so much 351! That is the tea cup collection I was looking for. I will be certain to include it on our itinerary. @ 344 - House of Books? Do you know where this is located? That would be most interesting to see!

There is also a street off East Valley Rd., perhaps, that has miniature houses. Does anyone know of those?

Drive past Oprah Winfrey's house too! 1633 East Valley Rd, just past San Ysidro . It's the only entrance with a television monitor.

Ojai is ~ 45 minute drive over hwy 150, which is beautiful scenery and in Ojai there are many places of interest. Including the outdoor Book Store and nice little restaurants.
You can go down hwy 33 to the 101 to return to SB.
Makes a nice little drive.

There is an interesting house painted on the outside with little objects and scenes on Santa Barbara St on the left going up from Haley. Not sure exactly but look carefully because it's a narrow yellow house. I think there is another one somewhere else in town too.

Inspired by the House of 1000 paintings - Recently completed and city approved with permits! painted panels were done each by various local artists and added to outside by architect Jeff Shelton; Vera Cruz House is on SB st. between Cota and Ortega? Not sure - Can't miss the colors!

If you go by Oprah's house, please plan to literally just drive by. Stop at all and security will be on you immediately and rightfully so, as it's private property. You won't be able to see the house from the street - it truly is more like "Hey, that's Oprah's shrubbery!"

Woohoo.

What about the statue of the dog that gets dressed for nearly every holiday? As a child my mother would drive us by it to see how it looked, and of course, being young children there were always the reverent stories shared among us as to how it got there, and why it was on their front lawn. I took my kids there when they were small, and now I take the grandchildren by.
