SB Wedding Venues
updated: Apr 23, 2014, 3:25 PM

Alright edhatters, I need some ideas. I just got engaged and want to get married in SB area including Santa Ynez, etc. I really want a rustic feeling, maybe an old barn. I've looked at the wineries and love them, except you must shut down at 10pm... what fun is that? Any ideas for cool venues or houses to rent?

Del Playa in Isla Vista. It could be the first ever, "Wed-topia." You can invite 15 to 25 thousand of your closest friends and party until the wee hours of the morning...or, until the tear gas canisters start being lobbed. Great setting, right on the beach, plenty of alcohol, and best of all - you don't have to clean up when you are done!. Party on Wayne. Party on Garth!

Well, it's not rustic, but my husband and I got married at the Glen Annie Golf course. They have a nice gazebo and lawn for the wedding service. Then you can also hold the reception there at the Frog Bar and Grille.

There's ample parking, a nice view. Your food catering is all figured out. You just need to provide the flowers/decorations/cake/yourselves. Oh, and of course music.

They have a nice outdoors area where you can dance, and ample space heaters if needed.

I'd check vbro for a huge house in the valley to rent out that has some property, then you can stay up as late as you want and be loud without disturbing anyone.

Museum of Natural History -- a lovely wooded area out by the creek for the ceremony, secluded outdoor patio for a reception, charming indoor auditorium for a dinner.

Oh, except the Museum has specified hours (I think it's 11?) by which the wedding party has to clear out so as not to unduly disturb the neighbors

Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens is a great wedding site. I don't normally like weddings, but I enjoyed the one I went to there a couple of years ago, even if there was no alcohol served.

Went to a wedding at Rockwood Women's Club, it was a cool spot. Rincon Beach Club was nice too, but that's Carp and parking is tough if you have a big wedding.

Condor Ridge Ranch, Circle Bar B, Arroyo Hondo, are just north of SB and quite lovely. Depending on guest count you might be able to rent a large estate which would also provide overnight accommodations for you and guests.

Good luck ~ and, congratulations!

The County of Santa Barbara's night-time noise restrictions apply after 10pm throughout the unincorporated portions of the County. Your idea of "fun" could be the neighbors' nightmare.

Carriage Museum is a great suggestion, and a central location; your guests can find lodging close in the many hotels around the waterfront where they can walk to if they have been drinking. If you want rustic, I think you really need to look at the Carriage Museum, it's fantastic for a party (I've been to plenty there).

If you care about rural lifestyle then DON'T think about renting the Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse, the neighbors hate the disturbances to their quiet farm life and animals. Many complaints over this usage! Owner takes advantage of situation, same as a few other homes in residential areas that don't care about what the neighbors feel, causing a bad karma for wedding. Do it the right way, in a venue that is for that purpose.

I was married in the mural room at the courthouse, and my memory is of a dark musty place with looming images of Conquistador Cabrillo subjugating the local populace- not especially romantic.

The Mural Room at the courthouse is beautiful and around $450. Need to reserve it a couple months in advance, or more. My daughter got married there last December. And, since we wanted a no hassle, inexpensive wedding, and had investigated a number of catered wedding venues etc. for the dinner, which we did not like, we ended up simply making a reservation for dinner at the Biltmore. There were 28 people in the wedding party, and we ate in the normal dining room in front of a lovely fireplace. Everyone sat where they wanted at two large tables. The food was delicious and the whole bill was less than it would have been for a catered dinner in a much less inviting venue. And the staff were fantastic. We brought our own wine and even with the corkage fee the whole thing was about $4500 (including the wine we brought). And, of course, the Biltmore decor was much better than anything we could have provided. So there was no planning other than making a reservation at the courthouse and the Biltmore, buying the wine and a bouquet from Victor, the Florist across from the courthouse. No Bridezilla or Mother of the Bridezilla.

If you want to use the mission rose garden, make sure they don't go through and prune the bushes right before your ceremony. This happened a few years ago and the wedding party was extremely upset.
