The Santa Barbara Police Activities League (PAL) 11th Annual Putting Kids First Event will take place on
Friday, April 25th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Carriage Museum located at 129 Castillo Street. The
fundraiser benefits PAL's Teen Center and Teen Leadership Academy, providing mentoring and training for
our future leaders.
The Friday night western themed bash will feature PAL alumni Courtney Gutierrez and Deputy Amariz Loza
sharing inspiring stories of their experiences at PAL. Honorees Richard and Marguerite Berti will receive the
Santa Barbara Police Activities League Founders Award for distinguished service to PAL. And PAL founder,
Officer Kent Wojciechoski, will lead the live auction to benefit PAL's programs along with a "Roundup for
Kids" silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.
New Executive Director Sara Spataro and Board Chair John Van Donge invite the community to get involved
as attendees, leadership mentors, event volunteers, and supporters. "This event showcases the life
changing effect that volunteer police officers and the community, working together, can make in a young
person's life," notes Van Donge.
PAL provides safe and educational after school programs for middle school and high school age students at
the 1235 Teen Center including specialty classes, tutoring, and sports leagues. PAL also provides summer
camp resources for low income families, collaborating with 12 nonprofits in a "Campership Alliance" to
provide summer camp scholarships.
