Well I'm kinda surprised that the Drunk Driver that killed Mallory Dies is getting any time at all but I'm grateful that he is. It's about time someone in Santa Barbara County took Drunk Drivers seriously. They quit taking us serious a long time ago. It's a big joke for people who drive under the influence in this town until they get caught doing it. If they hurt or kill someone the incident becomes how they suffered in their past, or all the good things they did in their life which should make up for this one screw up. I thought back in the early 80's when the CHP had a campaign against Drunk Drivers that would be it. That there would not be many Drinking Drivers anymore that Americans would take this serious, and get responsible about driving under the influence of any mind altering substance. But then a whole new generation of uncaring Drunk Drivers were Born to Raise Hell and Havoc on our Highways. The CHP Campaign went out with the 80's. Long forgotten and buried, like all its Victims.
There are so many Drunk and DUI drivers out there on our streets right now; it's pretty easy to tell that someone is under the influence of a mind altering substance while they are operating a motor vehicle. Nowadays you don't have to worry about the police when you're out there, you have to worry about everyone else out there on the road they all have phones. I believe that there are more driving under the influence arrests due to citizen snitching than SNOT. No one wants to get hit by a drunk driver there's no accountability, if there is it's a miracle. It's been my experience personal and otherwise that Drunk Drivers don't get as hurt as much as their victims or at least they don't feel it until later. Nobody gives a damn until they are in the hot seat.
I really did not give a damn then. I felt bad for putting my passenger in the hospital, I felt bad that he spent 3 days in intensive care. But I could not wait to get the hell outta jail and have a few drinks. I had a few charges against me that time I went to court I was facing a few years in prison. I fully expected to go that day I did not want probation and all that Horse Manure, AA Meeting Scrap! I wanted to drink, I loved to drink, I am an Alcoholic. I take one drink I'm a time bomb and it's only a matter of time before I drink and drive, steal, fight, pound or get pounded on. I pleaded guilty to what I did and got probation that day. I should have went to prison. I got kicked out of the National Guard, I was given probation, had to go to therapy, and AA Meetings, ordered to take medication. My charges were dropped to 3 counts of attempted suicide. Oh yea I was told I wasn't allowed to drink. Will HELL forget that but you know what? I agreed to all of it to get that drink. I was drunk an hour after I got released. Most drunks I know don't stop drinking until they are sick and tired of being sick and tired. You better get out of the way if they are drinking and driving because they ain't gonna get outta yours!
Joyce Dudley put the pedal to the Metal on this and for that I'm grateful I don't always agree with some of the things she does as the District Attorney but I agree with this, Thank You Joyce.
