Viper Formation
updated: Apr 17, 2014, 2:15 PM

By John Wiley

My impression is that we've had more helicopters over town in recent years. While flying past the harbor last Sunday, I saw this flight of two over town that appeared to be USMC AH-1Z Vipers. Pretty cool aircraft, and maybe a little quieter than the older military helicopters? Hope they enjoyed flying over bucolic SB because the dusty tail booms, especially on the rear one, seem to indicate they'd been hard at work. Maybe practicing up at Camp Roberts?
