Lunar Eclipse Blood Moon
updated: Apr 15, 2014, 8:20 AM

Edhat subscribers share pictures of Tuesday morning's lunar eclipse, the Blood Moon.

Updated with video footage:

I thought you'd enjoy this 8 seconds of the moon crossing the sky and turning red last night during the eclipse.
(Video by Lee Tomkow)

I had a front porch view of the show last night and it was awesome, well worth missing a nights sleep for. These images are being presented un-edited (except for file size to facilitate e-mailing). By Charles Brewster

Pre Blood Moon moon-rise: The moon rise last night was equally as awesome as the Blood Moon display that took place at midnight.

I made this spiral collection of lunar eclipse pix taken at various times, then added two phases of the "blood moon" during the total eclipse. You can see from the eclipse advance, that the darkened part of the moon shifted upward. I guess that's why the lighter part of the total eclipse also shifted toward the bottom. Apparently the earth's shadow wasn't centered on the moon during the total eclipse, but shifted slightly "above" center from our perspective? Then before going in I snapped a wide shot past a tangerine tree, with the longer exposure showing the fog rolling in over Hope Ranch lit by the city. Thanks to Barron for the email nudging me to snap the show.

This is a view of last night's lunar eclipse from Goleta. The bright star to the right of the moon is Spica in the constellation Virgo. The bright object in the upper right is the planet Mars. Totality was 12:45 am.
