Monday- Monday. It's Monday. Hear a lot of falling down calls usually happens to the older folks. They fall down and can't get up. Used to be a lot jokes around that when we was younger, I used to say: "I've fallen down and I can't get it up." My girlfriend would look embarrassed, my friends would laugh. Now my Girlfriend is dead, friends that are not dead are older like me and no one laughs at the joke anymore because when we fall down it takes a long time to get up off the floor at all. Sometimes I think it's better to just stay there on the floor. People that call 911 for help if they have access to do so usually get shipped to the hospital for their own good, even if they are uninjured. "They just want to check" the caring responders say but sometimes I wonder if everyone really cares as much as they say they do or is there other motives? Like Money. I hear these calls a lot Medical Emergency Fall Victim calls many of them are on the streets and one really has no choice then to be shipped to the hospital. Many of these calls are considered "Public Accidents" and could cost taxpayers a pretty penny especially if someone sues or files some kind of claim on the injury.
Many public accidents are caused by broken curbs and cracks in the sidewalks things that could easily be fixed if someone kept them up. I know they are not kept up because I fell over a broken sidewalk in the 700 Block of Haley over 10 years ago and it's still broken. I should have sued because it would have at least been fixed, or if it had been in a more high profile area it would have been fixed. I don't think people care as much about East Haley as they do State Street. Not many cruise ship passengers shop on East Haley as they do State Street. As far as being at home and having the problem of falling down it would pay to invest in products that could prevent one from falling down or if one does fall down products that could help the subject get back up without having to call 911. When you are dependent on others and you have no one, the scavengers come out of the woodwork. Before you become so handicapped you can't move without help, invest in that spring loaded toilet seat with remote control, that motorized chair, a stair chair, different canes and walkers that could assist you in pushing yourself up off the floor. Keep a good supply of needs nearby on the floor in case you're going to be there awhile. These might include Beer or other drinks or soft drinks, an extra remote, dry foods, a couple pairs of Depends just in case, blanket, pillow, cushion.
You're lucky if you got good neighbors, me and the neighbors don't always get along but we are there for each other pretty much. I've had two real bad falls one where I didn't feel my back and I fell hitting my head got knocked out for a while figure I was on the floor a couple hours never called 911. I know better now. The other time I fell out the front door broke a finger, my wrist, my face, my knee was banged up pretty good too. A neighbor hauled me to the hospital. It's also better if you have to go to the hospital to have a loved one or a friend go with you for support. I had a friend that went to the hospital alone. They determined in 2 hours she was at risk and they put her in a nursing home. I hope I can win about 40 grand in the lottery and get the hell outta here before that happens to me but with my luck I'll win the lottery and fall down turning it in. I've seen a few people get taken here whether it be by a so-called caregiver or a loved one. Families are not always honest either but I think some people have a better chance with a family member than with someone they don't know.
A lot of opportunists here quick to help the elderly and handicapped out of their money and property. A friend of mine got nailed good by someone who worked in a popular retirement community in Santa Barbara and now that the woman is gone and retired from that community I wonder how many people she robbed of their life savings as they were dying and how much she got away with. I'm sure it was a lot, enough to retire at 47 because that is what she did.

Been hearing a lot of ill Subjects and Difficulty breathing calls lately. I usually don't list them because it it's the Flu I don't want to know about it. I'd much rather hide in denial that it's going around. I thought we was pretty much out of the woods but I'm hearing these calls again and the past couple days feeling a little weird myself. Either it's a bad case of allergies or maybe it's the 2nd coming of the Flu. Either way, WATCH OUT! Protect yourselves it really sucks getting older because it's almost like us older folks are sponges everything that comes along stops here. I don't want it on top of getting sick I turn into a Monster Crab. That's enough outta me for now enjoy your Monday and Dog willing we will see you on Wednesday. Later, Roger
