Women's Literary Festival of Santa Barbara
updated: Apr 19, 2014, 10:00 AM

In 2004 the WLF steering committee, made up of volunteers from throughout Santa Barbara County, came up with the idea of a literary festival to celebrate women authors and their diverse life experiences. Thus the Women's Literary Festival Santa Barbara was born, with the first festival held on March 4, 2006. The Festival authors' presentations offer an opportunity for building community, advancing women's voices, promoting literacy, and celebrating those who write and read for the purpose of developing our personal lives and our sense of community.

We firmly believe that the strength of language can stir the soul, increase awareness and understanding of social injustice, strengthen our bonds as community members through mutual respect, and offer solutions to the problems that often divide us. Through the power of literature, we often find the simple truths that help set us free from the notions of “us” and “them.” Each genre of literature contributes to this collective of the human spirit, this fabric that makes us more alike than different.

The mission of the Women's Literary Festival Santa Barbara is to present the work of contemporary female authors from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences at a yearly conference. The Festival celebrates diversity, literacy and social justice.

Ninth Annual Women’s Literary Festival Presents Diverse Line-up of Women Writers in Santa Barbara May 3, 2014

The Women's Literary Festival committee is pleased to announce the list of authors for the 2014 event. The Festival will celebrate readers and women writers in a day of interactive presentations and book signings on May 3, 2014 at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort (633 East Cabrillo Boulevard) in Santa Barbara, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Visit our website at http://www.womensliteraryfestival.com/ for more information about the event, registration information, and information about past events.

Dedicated to promoting literacy, diversity, and social justice, WLF is designed to expand the understanding and appreciation of current literature through insightful and inspirational presentations given by a distinguished group of contemporary women authors from diverse backgrounds. During the 45-minute presentations, the writers will discuss their writing craft and describe the social and cultural ideas that move them to write. Festival attendees can interact with the authors during book signing sessions, and an independent bookseller will be on site with an inventory of the authors' published works available for purchase.
