Construction of the County's pavement rehabilitation project on Hollister Avenue in the Second Supervisorial District is scheduled to begin on April 10, 2014. This $1 million dollar project will rehabilitate approximately four lane miles on Hollister Avenue using a process called cold-in-place recycling, which mills the existing asphalt concrete pavement, combines it with new emulsifiers, and places it back on the roadway. Once it is placed, a final thin overlay of new hot mix asphalt is applied. This process reduces the impacts of paving by reusing existing materials, reducing trucking, and limiting the greenhouse gas emissions for material production and construction while still creating a quality, long-life roadway.
Construction is scheduled to begin on April 10, 2014, and will be completed mid-May, contingent on weather conditions. Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Hollister Avenue, between Turnpike Road and Lassen Drive. Drivers should be aware of reduced speed zones and increased traffic control when driving through the construction sites. Public Works encourages the travelling public to use an alternate route when possible.
