Grey Water System
updated: Apr 06, 2014, 7:27 PM

Can anyone refer me to someone who can install a grey water system in Los Olivos? Specifically, we would like to use the grey water to water a redwood tree about 150 feet from a house to keep it alive through the summer. After our drought is "over" we would use the system to water fruit trees at other times during the year.

It's really as simple as isolating a productive drain (or two) to your redwood. If you're dealing with vegetables it's a slightly different matter. It means that you have to be conscious of what you are putting down your drain. We have everything but the toilets on grey water.

The library has dvd's on the subject from Art Ludwig, who is the local water guru, that makes it pretty simple. The only issue you might have is if the tree is higher in elevation than your house. Good wishes! It is the way to go!

Construction Plumbing just did our grey water system. We're going through a remodel, and I requested the system so we could keep our fruit trees healthy and re-use water from the house. Although not complicated in principal, there are some things to consider and factor in when creating a grey water system. Here's a good place to start (add www to these):

I would be happy to create a greywater solution for you. I mostly install laundry greywater systems. Check out my youtube video and pass it on. It will not let me post the link here but on youtube search 'got laundry greywater' and my name.

I can do other kinds of greywater systems as well.

My rates are affordable. I am a Santa Barbaran splitting time between SB and the Bay Area at the moment.

I was lucky to meet Art at SBCC before he was a guru. And I agree that he is! Check his website & consult with him. (He's also the creator of Oasis detergent)

Google "art ludwig detergent" and you get many articles.

Isn't grey water illegal?
